The Schenectady Yacht Club will provide to both its members and guests; a pleasant setting for boating and related social experiences; friendly and professional services; safe, secure and well-maintained facilities for dockage and storage.
The Schenectady Yacht Club will be a valuable member of the community by supporting river/canal related public events and promoting boating safety; strive to maintain the highest level of environmental standards on land and water.
Preserve its site’s historical treasures for our own heritage as well as that of all the citizens of the State of New York.
The Schenectady Yacht Club will be known as the New York Capital Region’s most desirable place to keep a boat. As such, it will maintain a full membership as well as a waiting list of applicants seeking membership.
SYC was unofficially founded by a group of boaters in 1940. On June 4, 1942 it became incorporated and in 1948, an old 100’x22’ grain barge was purchased to be a clubhouse. Upon the sinking of the barge, the current clubhouse which was purchased in 1953 was previously used as a feed and grain store in the 1900’s, a speakeasy in the 20’s,

In the clubhouse there are many pictures of
the original Erie Canal dating back to the 1800s. Our current launch well was lock 22 of the original Erie Canal.
